fun
[01] -- Look up TEN of your favorite movies on IMDB.
[02] -- Click the "trivia" link in the sidebar.
[03] -- Post a fun and random bit of trivia from each film.
[04] -- Tag five people!

1. Legend: Composer Jerry Goldsmith's original score was removed by the studio after the first round of test screenings. In an effort to appeal to "the kids", executives commissioned Tangerine Dream to create a replacement. Until 2002, Goldsmith's original score was heard only with the film's European release.

2. The Dark Crystal: The Special Edition DVD features several "workprint" takes showing early passes at dialogue. This early voice-over work differs from the final dialogue in several ways: the Skeksis speak in a foreign language, Frank Oz provided the voice of Aughra (sounding very similar to his voice work for Yoda in the Star Wars movies), and the Mystics were referred to by (presumably) their original name, the ur-Ru. The novelization was apparently based on this earlier version, referring to the "Trial By Stone" contest by its original name - "Hakskeekah" - and calling the Mystics the ur-Ru. In the final film, one reference to ur-Ru was not redubbed: when the Mystics enter the Skeksis Great Hall, SkekOk, the Scrollkeeper sees them and shouts "Ur-Ru!"

Oh and *sqee!!!* "The movie's conceptual artist Brian Froud and puppet designer Wendy Midener met on the set of the movie and were later married." I didn't know the Frouds MET there!!

3. Labyrinth: The baby who plays Toby is 'Toby Froud' , son of Brian Froud who was the conceptual designer for both this movie and The Dark Crystal (1982), another Jim Henson production.

Hee, followup!

4. Pan's Labyrinth: Doug Jones was the only American on the set and the only one who didn't speak Spanish. He had to memorize not only his own lines in Spanish (a language he does not speak) but also Ivana Baquero's (Ofelia) lines so he knew when to speak his next line. The servos in the head piece that made the facial expressions and ears move were so loud, he couldn't hear her speak her lines.

5. Narnia: The wolves that destroyed the Beavers' home were mostly real animals with one or two CGI ones added in, although their tails had to be digitally removed and re-added. Their tails kept wagging while filming the scene, making them seem less vicious.

7. Fellowship of the Rings: Bilbo Baggins's birthday cake has 111 candles on it and they eventually set fire to the polystyrene cake.

8. Parenthood: The redhead girl in the audience at the play is Ron Howard's daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard.

9. Spirited Away: In the scene during which Chihiro squashes the small worm like thing that inhabited Haku with her foot that, Kamaji tells Chihiro to "Cut the line!" "Cutting the line" is a Japanese good-luck charm performed by making a chopping gesture through another person's connected index fingers. This is done whenever someone is affected by some impurity. During footage of the dubbing process in the Spirited Away Nippon-TV Special, Rumi Hiiragi; playing Chihiro was not aware of this concept and had it explained to her by Miyazaki. One of the sound engineers commented saying "The young don't know it these days".

10. Real Genius: When Mitch rides the cart into the steam tunnels, the viewer briefly sees the quotation, "Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain" scrawled on the left wall. These are the original words of the German poet Friedrich Schiller. Relevant to the film, Isaac Asimov named three separate stories "Against Stupidity", "The Gods Themselves" and "Contend in Vain". He later combined them into a 1972 science fiction novel about a conspiracy by aliens who inhabit a parallel universe with different physical laws than ours, and who are trying to turn our Sun into a supernova in order to collect the resulting energy for their use.

I tag [info]shosen, [info]zuelaji, [info]aida_kun, [info]mintos and [info]banjo_di since I think they're probably most likely to actually do it >.>

PS: don't worry if you pick some of the same movies, there was PLENTY of trivia to go around!
